How I dislocated my shoulder on jump 17

2023-11-10, jump 17. The wind pushed me forward between the first and second flare, I put an arm out, and the X-ray showed a dislocated shoulder.

Seventeen jumps in, a landing I had done before put me in an X-ray room. Nothing about the jump was unusual until the last few seconds of it.

2023-11-10. Things were going well. It was my 17th jump.

On landing, after the first flare and before I could finish the second, the wind pushed me forward and to the right. I put my right arm out to stop myself going in head first. That was the reflex, and it is the one that did the damage. In theory I should have done a PLF. It happened fast enough that I can hardly recall the details, which is the honest reason I did not.

I could not carry my main back to the packing area, because I could not lift my right arm.

I thought it was a muscle sprain. The X-ray showed a dislocated shoulder.

There is a low chance of getting my A license this year.
